- Your show host Robert and special guest Ken Squire. Ken Squire started in radio at the age of 12 in Vermont where his father had a radio station and still has today. At 14, he began announcing at stock car tracks. A fan of racing,,he opened a small half mile oval race track in 1960 called Blue Thunder International , which he still owns and operates today. In 1972 Ken joined CBS Sports where he sold them on the idea of covering a complete Nascar race on television. They went for it and in February of1979, ken covered the first flag to flag Nascar racing event on TV - the Daytona 500, dubbing it the great American race. He announced every Daytona 500 through 1997. Ken did some announcing for a few Indy Car races as well. He also covered other sporting events for CBS such as the World Olympics. In 1981 ken co-founded “ Motor Racing Network “, a radio broadcasting arm of Nascar. He also co-founded World Sports Enterprises, a TV production company dedicated to producing motorsports programming. He was inducted into the Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame, the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame, He was awarded the 2003 Smokey Yunick Award for his lifelong contributions to motorsports and earned numerous other awards throughout his career. Today Ken operates 4 radio stations in Vermont and attends various races and events around the country.
