Your show host Robert with special alumni guest Bob Lutz. Bob was born in Switzerland and educated in the United States. After leaving the Marines, Bob went to work in the auto industry. He spent eight years with GM in Europe before joining BMW. During the 70’s he helped bring the popular “3” Series and the “M” Series performance side of BMW in to mainstream production. Then Bob teamed up with Ford of Europe working on projects like the Capri RS, Escort III and the Ford Sierra. In 1985, Bob returned to the United States and eventually became head of Chrysler Corporation's Global Product Development where he can take some credit for the very successful LH series cars and the Dodge Viper hyper car. Later, while at General Motors in Detroit, Bob again held the position of Vice Chairman of Global Product Development. He is credited with numerous concept and production cars such as the Cadillac Sixteen Concept, Saturn Sky, Pontiac Solstice, Pontiac GTO and G8, Chevrolet Camaro, Malibu, and Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept and CTS wagon and sedans. Bob also headed the Studies and initiatives into crossover vehicles such as the Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Equinox, and Cadillac SRV. In 2008, Bob emphasized a need to produce fuel efficient vehicles, and said that "the electrification of the automobile is inevitable shortly followed by the development and production of the Chevrolet Volt. Today Bob is semi-retired. He can occasionally be seen doing TV news commentaries on the state of the auto industry and spends some of his time writing books and speaking on the lecture circuit. Bob is an avid pilot and maintains a personal vintage car collection.
