  • Your show host Robert and special guest Alex Xydias.  Alex is the original founder of So-Cal Speed Shop. After returning home from World War II and the European front, Alex opened the first speed shop in Southern California. He started working on hot rods and selling speed parts. Before the war, Alex used to hot rod out on the dry lakes, so it was only natural to resume that endeavor later. In 1948 he built the infamous lakester "So-Cal-Belly Tanker" which held the speed record at the time.  In 1950 he built the sleek Ford flathead powered  "So Cal-Streamliner" setting a new speed record of 210 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Alex continued racing in 1/4 mile drags where he continued to set records.  In 1954 Alex was producing racing films and went to work for Peterson publications as editor of Car Craft and Hot Rod magazines. He was one of the founders of SEMA, the original high performance and custom products trade show. Today Alex is involved with Pete Chapouris and So-Cal speed shop and plays an active roll in promoting traditional hot rodding.
