  • Your show host Robert and special guest Shirley Muldowney. Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney is recognized as the first lady of drag racing. Shirley started racing in the late 50's near Skenectady N.Y.  The "Cha Cha"  nickname was derived from some shoe polish writing on the windshield of an early '58 chevy race car by a race tech. Shirley obtained her NHRA license in 1965 driving gas dragsters. In the early 70's, she drove the funny car, "Bounty Huntress". In 1973  she acquired her top fuel license. She's won three NHRA top fuel championships. In 1983 they made a movie about her life titled "Heart Like a Wheel" highlighting the trials and tribulations of being a women in a sport dominated by men. She is a member of the Motorsports and International Motorsports Hall of Fame. She is one of three famous household names in drag racing as quoted by Don Garlits. Shirley resides in Michigan. She often attends drag racing events, car shows and occasionally makes exhibition runs.
