  • Your show host Robert and special guest Darryl Starbird. Darryl is one of the best known car customizers of the 50's, 60's and 70's and recognized for his futuristc and innovative car designs. He is often referred to as the Bubble Top King. A native of Wichita Kansas, he started customizing cars in the early 50's. One of his earliest feature cars was the "Predicta", a futuristic bubble top car that was featured on the cover of many magazines and the winner of many awards. Other bubble top cars followed such as The Futurista, Forcasta, Cosma Ray, and Illusion. In the sixties he took  3 semi trucks , called The Star Car Caravan, containing his custom cars on the road and traveled to cars shows across the country.  Monogram, a subsidierary of Mattel, the toy manufacturer, approached Darryl about creating model kits based on his cars for the hobbyist.  One of the most famous model kits is the 'Lil Coffin which has been reissued over 5 times since the 60's. In 1995 he founded the National Rod and custom Hall of Fame Museum in Oklahoma. The museum is dedicated to the preservation and contributions in the custom car world. There are currently over 50 cars on display, a Hall of Fame inductee schedule, numerous drawings, sketches, magazines and artifacts outlining the past history and evolution of the industry. More additions are planned and he is always looking for contribiutions.
